NCLEX Exam Results

To ensure public protection, the United States and its territories require entry into the practice of nursing to be regulated by licensing authorities within each State. Each State requires all candidates for licensure as entry-level nurses to pass the NCLEX examination which assesses the knowledge required to perform safely and effectively. NCLEX® stands for The National Council Licensure Examination and it is a standardized exam used by each state board of nursing to determine if RN and LPN candidates are competent for entry-level nursing practice.

South Carolina practical nursing program graduates maintained a NCLEX pass rate better than the national average every year since 2000. In 2005, the average national NCLEX-PN pass rate was 89.06% while the South Carolina pass rate was 94.35%.

South Carolina registered nursing program graduates maintained a NCLEX pass rate better than the national average every year since 2000 except for 2004. In 2005, the average national NCLEX-RN pass rate was 87.29% while the South Carolina pass rate was 88.50%.
